Catie, Catie, Bo Batie

Craig says it's weird for us to spell Caitlyn's shortened name as "Catie." I guess because the "i" is moved. But really, how else could you spell it that would look better?

Caity...
Caitie...
Caty...
Catey...

Do any of those necessarily look better? The first one's not too bad I guess. But what if we were to decide to change it at 14 months old! Can you imagine? I'd have to go back and do a lot of editing, that's for sure.

Let Us Entertain You

This is what Catie and I did on our day off this week for the 5 minutes she wasn't feeling yucky...

Yes, that's right...I got bored and made her entertain me. But it's not like I made her do jumping jacks or anything. Hmmm...jumping jacks. Now wouldn't THAT be a hoot?

You've Got to Be Joking

Tell me a joke. Right now, off the top of your head. Anything coming to mind?

Kharli had a job interview today, at which she was asked to tell a joke. When she told me this, I thought...what a great idea! You can learn so much about someone's personality by the joke they'd choose to tell, and how they tell it.

What kind of sense of humor do they have? Do they have a sense of audience when speaking? Do they have an innate sense of timing? Can they engage somebody else with their smile or laughter? Are they quick on their feet? Witty? Are they thoughtful enough to retell it in sequence, yet easy-going enough to shrug it off with a chuckle if they blow the whole thing?

I began to wonder which joke I'd tell in this situation. This was the first thing to pop into my mind:
How do you make a tissue dance?
Put a little boogie in it!

Um...yeah. Would that have been my shining moment in which I'd dazzle my (not) future employer with my wit and charisma? Guess not. My 3rd graders crack the hell up. But I don't suppose it comes across the same way with real live adult people.

So I decided that I need a really good joke in my repertoire. Something that is very ME. I don't want to be like Uncle Bob who throws back a few too many at family gatherings and then proceeds to tell the same old tired joke, laughing stupidly the whole time. I don't want anything vulgar or degrading, or anything that begins with, "So this duck, girl scout and bank teller all walk into a bar..."

I just want a signature joke that I can bring out once in awhile...something that will make people smile and think I'm completely charming, if they don't already. I'm going to go try some on and see if they fit.

Goo

There is just NO successful way to get medicine into a screaming, kicking, crying Caitlyn who adamantly refuses to take it. No. Way.

I'm telling you. I am covered in 2 doses of bubble gum flavored Augmentin as I write this. My shirt, my hair, my cheek. Even my toes feel sticky.

Here's what I've tried....mixed in an ounce of juice, mixed in an ounce of milk, in a bottle, in a sippy, in a pacifier feeder thing, in a syringe, in a dosing cup, on a spoon...nothing works! All my tricks, like blowing in Caitlyn's face as I squirt it in her mouth, are a big joke.

We have gotten to the point of restraining her and forcing it in. Doesn't work. She just spits it out. Forcefully...that's why I'm covered in goo.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to try mixing it into a couple of spoonfuls of her yogurt. Or pudding. Or ice-cream. I'm desperate!

And did I mention I'm covered in goo?

Merging

On the first day of this year, I started a new blog, intended to be a place to write my random thoughts about whatever happened that day. Sometimes I write a sentence, sometimes a paragraph, whatever it takes. But I always tried to make sure I wrote one little thing every day, like a daily journal.

Kharli has told me several times that I should just merge both into one, and since life with toddlers can be a little chaotic, I think I'm going to try her idea.

So here's my blog today...a blog about blogging. I'm boring even myself. :)

Summer is Here!

I've been looking forward to Summertime for months and it's finally here! Last weekend Craig and I took the girls to Grandma's house for their first swim of the season. The weather was perfect and the water was SO nice!

Caitlyn loved the water. Here she is chillin' with Daddy and Grandma...

Surprisingly, Jaden was a little scared of the water and mostly cried. I think in her little two-year-old head she thought the water was swallowing us up. She did calm down enough later to dip her feet in, though.

I think it's going to be a few more visits before we are back to the fearless antics of last summer. Until then...

Mommy's Day

Today for Mother's Day, I went to breakfast with my sisters and Mom. We had pancakes and coffee, and I told them I loved them.

I also played with Jaden and Caitlyn...sang songs, kissed owies, wiped faces, and picked up toys. Since they are too little, Craig shopped for them and gave me an espresso/cappuccino maker.

Christian gave me a framed scrapbook page with personalized journaling about all the "Mom" things he appreciates. Kharli gave me a gift certificate to my favorite Aveda salon for a service of my choice.

I was given many things today. I received companionship, adoration, fortitude, appreciation, self-esteem and love. I am a lucky mom.

What more is there?

Imagine This

What if you woke up this morning to find that you had spontaneously lost 20 pounds, and your closet was full of designer jeans and shoes?

Then you went outside and discovered in your mailbox a check for every dollar you have ever paid the IRS, with their apologies about the error.

While driving to work you heard on news radio that ice-cream had been found to be the next superfood, having more health benefits than broccoli.

At work, you find that your coworkers, realizing what a fabulous asset you are, have declared this day to be a celebration in your honor. Oprah is waiting on hold to schedule you to come out for an exclusive interview.

During your celebratory banquet, a limo pulls up outside and movie executives tell you they want you to star opposite Brad Pitt in a multi-million dollar project, and they hope you don't mind love scenes.

Later on the way home, the heavens start raining diamonds and twinkies all around you.

Imagine how your eyes would light up, how you'd gasp in amazement, how you would not be able to contain the excitement.

Okay, now multiply that feeling by 100 and maybe you will come close to the absolute THRILL Jaden experienced last weekend when she got to go to Sesame Street Live and see her buddy Elmo in person! It was priceless.
